5 Ways to Use Music for Self Care

Finding time for self care can be difficult in the midst of our daily routines. Whether it’s one song or a weekly class, every moment counts!

Here are five ways to use music as a part of your self care routine✨:

  1. Make a new playlist and choose a theme. It can be any theme: relaxation, focus, love, peace, whatever you need! Find songs that you think might fit with the theme and save the playlist for whenever you need it.

  2. Learn a new instrument. Pick up the guitar or piano and take your mind off everything that’s going on. Playing music can help us be in the present moment.

  3. Join a community music group. Check your local area for any community ensembles or groups! For example, we host a Ukulele for Wellness group every week where we come together to learn meaningful songs and share self care resources.

  4. Listen to a song and be present. Pick any song and dedicate the length of the song to a mindful moment. Close your eyes if you’d like, take deep breathes, and be present with the song. What do you hear in the music? What do you think the song is trying to express?

  5. Write a song to express yourself. Songwriting can be a great way to process and express how you are feeling.  Write out lyrics that you would like to include or keep it instrumental!
