Mentorship/Supervision for Music Therapists
We are excited to now offer supervision and mentorship for board certified music therapists both in-person and virtually through Zoom.
From a person-centered perspective, we encourage you to bring your authentic, whole selves to supervision. We value honesty, empathy, and self-reflection. We feel that it is important to have open and constructive dialogues in order to facilitate a positive learning environment.
We seek to meet the learning needs of music therapists by meeting them where they are in their clinical journey and providing them with resources to develop their own clinical style.
Similar to our clinical philosophy, we approach music therapy supervision from a holistic perspective, where the individual’s clinical work is directly impacted and influenced by all aspects of themselves including their mental health, support system, work environment, financial state, life or cultural experiences, and physical well-being.
Music therapists may seek supervision with our team to enhance their clinical and musical skills or to connect with other therapists with shared cultural experiences in South Texas.
Supervision for Clinical or Musical Skills
At our private practice, we provide music therapy for a diverse range of clinical populations at our facility and in community-based settings across South Texas.
We work with music therapists to increase clinical and/or musical skills at any time throughout their clinical journey.
We may be a good fit for supervision if you are a board certified music therapist or a recent music therapy graduate looking to:
Increase their knowledge of music therapy practice for clients of Latinx/e heritage, specifically clients of Mexican-American heritage
Increase accessibility of music experiences when working with neurodivergent adults
Increase clinical resources for providing music therapy with youth and adolescence in mental health settings
Develop or implement music-based community wellness programs
Improve documentation or treatment planning skills
Culture-Centered Supervision
Our community is the heart of everything we do and we are always appreciative of any opportunity to support Latine music therapists working in or from the Rio Grande Valley.
For this reason, we offer culture-centered supervision for music therapists of Latine/x, xincanx, or Mexican American heritage. Our specialized supervision will support music therapists looking to:
Connect cultural experiences with their music therapy practice
Reclaim and integrate therapeutic aspects of folk medicine in the RGV with music therapy theory and practice
Explore the role of border culture and identity in the context of therapy spaces
Integrate cultural values into the process of building therapeutic alliance in music therapy
What to Expect During Supervision
We believe in the power of music to process emotions and life experiences; therefore, we center music and other art-based experiences in the supervision process. We will also provide resources for therapists to explore including both music therapy literature and research from related health fields.
