Summer-Themed Songwriting Prompts for Music Therapy Sessions

Looking for a fun way to incorporate songwriting into your music therapy session? Let’s try an interactive game!

This reel gives clients the opportunity to select from 9 different songwriting prompts:

  1. What’s your favorite thing about summer?

  2. What does summer remind you of?

  3. Write about a summer memory.

  4. What do you want to do this summer?

  5. What is the best part of summer?

  6. How does summer make you feel?

  7. Write a song that feels like summer.

  8. Create an instrumental composition that sounds like summer.

  9. Describe a fun summer day.

Note: This blog post is intended for informational purposes only. Music therapy interventions are implemented by music therapists who are board certified clinicians with a current credential (MT-BC, RMT, etc.).

The video quickly changes between prompts with transitional theme music. When the client is ready, they can press and hold the screen (typically an iPad) to make a random selection - an electronic alternative to rolling a dice!
