Musical ‘‘I Spy": A Music Therapy Listening Intervention (FREEBIE)

Musical 'I Spy' has become one of the most popular listening worksheets that I use in my music therapy sessions.

It's a helpful visual aid that can increase a client's engagement, attention to task, comprehension, communication, and more!

It can be used with both client-selected and therapist-selected songs or compositions. It incorporates instruments from both secular and classical music, depending on the preferences of the client.

First, select the song or composition for the intervention. Clients can color in the instruments they hear in the song.

If you are facilitating the intervention over Telehealth, clients can also color in

whichever instruments they see throughout the performance when using a screen share feature to play the video.

I always try to have several color options with me for clients to choose from. Then, you can give them the option to select colors that represent the emotional content of each instrument or the overall emotion of the song.
